What is Kamut? (KAH-MOOT) Brand Name

Kamut is an ancient non-hybridized khorasan wheat, which has better nutrition and is easily digested compared to the acid forming modern wheat we have today.

The exact origin of the khorasan wheat, to this day, is still unknown, but it is believed that it comes from the north eastern part of Iran in the Province of Khorasan. This unmodified wheat has 30% more protein than conventional wheat, contains trace minerals such as zinc, magnesium and selenium, and is alkaline.

Kamut comes in three forms: Kamut Berries, Kamut Cereal, and Kamut Flour. I enjoy kamut cereal for breakfast, it has a delicious creamy nutty flavor like oatmeal, but with the consistency of grits. I noticed that I digest it easily, and never feel bloated.

I'm currently experimenting with creating breads and pastas from this wheat for a more wholesome well rounded diet. The possibilities are endless with this versatile alkaline grain. Did you know that it can be used as a substitute for rice? How's that for versatility. Try my breakfast recipe, and you too may be surprised to find that it tastes better than oatmeal. You can find Kamut products at your local grocer or at Bob's Redmill.
